NYS Ranking

Final ranking in the New York State high school swimming poll for Fairport High School.

The ranking of high school swimming teams in New York State used to be a sports writer's poll, then it was a coaches poll. In more recent years it has become a little more scientific. There is not a state tournament nor do teams swim against each other in a state meet. The rankings are a combination of dual meet results, mock dual meets (for schools that don't swim against each other) and NISCA power point scores.

The state is broken up into 11 sections. At the state meet, the sections swim against each other. Swimmers earn points for their sections, not their schools. In many respects, the state meet is much more of an individual meet, than a team meet. (Although I can't really speak from experience, having only attended the state meet as a spectator).

*Fairport was not included in the 2006 or 2007 state rankings. I can only guess this is because a lineup was not submitted by them to the ranking committee. Looking at the data from the other top teams in the state and Fairport's dual meet results, I estimated Fairport's ranking for these seasons. Let me know if you know or think anything different.
