Adams Earns State Honor

     

November 18, 2001 - Jamie Adams, 17, a senior at Fairport High School, received the 2001 New York State Scholar-Athlete Award at the New York State High School Swimming Championships at the Erie Community College pool in Buffalo, Nov. 17.

Adams was chosen from all candidates from the 12 sections of New York state.

The selection was based on grade-point average, SAT scores, extracurricular activities, leadership, community service, an essay, and contributions to swimming.

Adams is in the top five percent of her class, is president of the National Honor Society, treasurer of the Student Council, a Varsity Volunteer, peer tutor, and a Special Olympics volunteer.

A three-time state championship qualifier, she won sectional titles in the 200 individual medley and 100 breast stroke in 2000 and swam on the winning 200 and 400 free relays in 2000 and 2001.

She has helped lead the Fairport swimming team to sectional championships all five of her varsity seasons.
