Red Raiders improve to 3-0 after dunking the Patriots

A well-rested Fairport swim team faced the Penfield Patriots for their first meet in the new year. Penfield, a cross-town rival, is always a tough team, however, the Red Raiders pulled together and outscored their rival.

The 200 medley relay team of Dhruv Tyagi, Tyler Santini, Jake Bianchi andJohn Spitzer touched for first-place with a winning time of 1:42.96, while Charlie Morales, Sam Rice, Andrew Koenig and Zakk Vice took third-place. Brandor Georger, John Holden, Nate Waara and Richard Waterhouse outtouched Penfield for fifth-place.

Tyler Benson, Evan Zheng and David Howard added nine more points for Fairport by finishing second, third and fourth in the 200 freestyle. In the200 IM, Morales placed first with a time of 2:08.32. Koenig and Holden finished fourth and fifth. In the 50 free, the Red Raiders split the points with the Patriots. Santini, Bianchi and Spitzer finished second, third, and fifth.

In the diving event, Fairport did not disappoint the crowd. Tyagi continued his winning streak by scoring 322.85 points and setting a new Penfield pool record. Jeff Castellano’s six dives of varying degrees of difficulty placed him third.

Zheng cruised to a second place finish in the 100 butterfly, while Waara touched for third and Vice for sixth. Fairport added another seven points to their total by finishing second (Morales); fourth (Rice) and fifth (Waterhouse) in the 100 freestyle.

The 500 freestyle brought the score to 71-55 as Benson swam to a first-place finish with a time of 5:09.40. Teammates Howard and Koenig touched for second and fourth places. The one-two finish in the 200 free relay by the Red Raiders widened the lead as Bianchi, Spitzer, Tyagi and Benson and Santini, Zheng, Vice and Rice added twelve points.

Georger, Waterhouse and Vice placed second, third and sixth in the 100 backstroke, sealing the meet in Fairport’s favor. Santini stopped the clock at 69.0 for first-place in the100 breaststroke, while Rice and Holden finished second and fourth, respectively.

In the final event, the 400 freestyle relay, Fairport’s three teams placed second, third, and fifth, bringing the score to 108-78.

The team traveled toSpencerport before the holiday break to participate in the 28th annual Spencerport Holiday Relay Invitational meet. This event has become a Fairport tradition. In the 27 year history, Fairport has won the meet 24 times.This year the team did not disappoint its fans, and won seven out of ten events.
