Fairport 91, Churchville-Chili 80 December 4, 2008
It was nip and tuck for most of the competition, but the always tough Fairport Red Raiders stayed afloat for a 91-80 triumph over the Churchville-Chili Saints last Thursday. Of the 12 contested events, the Red Raiders splashed their way to eight first place performances. Steering the Fairport ship was Jake Horowitz with a gold medal effort in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:53.81, and was also a member of the 200 medley relay (1:51.84) that also featured Matt McGrath, Jake Robbins, and Zakk Vice. All are seniors except Vice who is a junior. McGrath claimed first in the 100 backstroke in 65 seconds, and Robbins won the 100 breaststroke in 1:16. In the 200 IM, senior Aria Salehi brought home the blue ribbon with a 2:18.24 clocking, Brandon Georger touched first in the 100 butterfly (68.38), and Andrew Koenig finished first in the 500 freestyle (5:38.30). Walking the plank was junior Dhruv Tyagi, who captured gold with a score of 231.60 in the diving event. Tyagi, a 2007-08 All-Greater Rochester first-teamer, was unbeaten all last season and won the Section 5 Class A diving championship. He competed in the state meet in diving, finishing seventh. Other athletes that comprise the Red Raider roster include: Tyler Benson, Jake Bianchi, Kyle Kauffman, Brendan McLaughlin, Kyle Mihaljevic, Tyler Santini, Peter Shipman, and Jon Snelgrove.
