Section 5 took first place honors last
weekend in the NYSPHAA Championships
meet at the Nassau Community Aquatic
Center in Westbury, Long Island with 579.5
points.
Six athletes from Fairport qualified to
swim in the meet by swimming a state cut
time at some point during the season. Two
Fairport relay teams placed as did several
swimmers in individual events.
The 200 medley relay team of Peter
Koenig, Connor Harrington, Dylan
Scheemaker, and Jim Beaudry finished
tied for sixth place with Lansing (Section
4) in a time of 1 minute, 38.94 seconds.
The 400 free relay of Beaudry,
Scheemaker, Koenig, and Jake Robbins
placed 12th out of 35 teams in 3:18.51.
Koenig, a senior, swam to a sixth place
finish in the 100-yard back in a personal
best time of 52.75 seconds, an All-Ameri-
can consideration time. He also swam a
personal best time of 2:00.47 in the 200
individual medley to finish 24th out of 72.
Sophomore diver Dhruv Tyagi took sev-
enth place with 415.10 points for 11 dives
out of 56 divers.
In the 50 free, Scheemaker touched for
30th out of 72 with a time of 22.54.
Scheemaker’s second individual event was
the 100 butterfly where he finished 25th
out of 58, in 54.39.
Beaudry swam the 100 free and posted a
time of 49.73 to place 31st out of 58.
Not only did the Fairport athletes per-
form well in the pool this year with a win-
ning season of 10 -1, they also performed
well in the classroom. The team earned the
scholar/athlete award with a combined
GPA of 93.365, which was the highest in
Section 5 in Class A
