Fairport 57, Pittsford 128 September 27, 2007 Pittsford swimmers avenge Fairport loss The Pittsford girls swimming team had been waiting for Thursday to come since last Sept. 28. Senior Jenny Lewis and junior Emma Miller were both double winners, as Pittsford avenged last season's 92-88 loss to Fairport, 128-57 in a Monroe County meet Thursday in Pittsford. "We had won 49 meets in a row until we swam against them last year in September, and they knocked us off," said Pittsford coach Marty Keating. "My girls made a commitment that they would train year round and come back with a vengeance, and that's exactly what they did." Pittsford (5-0) raced to an early advantage, finishing 1-2 in three of the first four events. The Panthers won 10 of the 12 events, placing 1-2 in six of them and 1-2-3 in the 100-yard freestyle. "Our team was really calm and really pumped for this meet," Lewis said. "We had practice at 6 o'clock in the morning and were together all day." Lewis and Miller said they remembered last year's meet. "I started thinking about the rematch right after (last year's meet)," Miller said. "I was so excited for this meet and I was just so ready." The win was that much more special for Pittsford because of its rivalry with Fairport (3-1). "They've always been our biggest rival," Lewis said. "They challenge us all the time and really push us to be better swimmers." "I can't wait to see them again at sectionals," Miller added.

Pittsford prevails in swimmingThe Lady Panthers end Fairport’s winning streakThe theme leading up to the biggest meet of the season for the Fairport girls varsity swimming and diving team was, ‘We’re going to Battle.’ And that they did, complete with camouflage headbands. However, as the Lady Red Raiders ended the Pittsford’s 49-meet winning streak last year, 92-88, the Lady Panthers snapped Fairport’s winning streak with a 128-57 Monroe County League win last Thursday afternoon at the Pittsford Mendon High School pool. Both teams squared off undefeated as Fairport was 3-0 and Pittsford 4-0. The action began with the 200 medley relay. The Fairport team of Kaitlin Holden, Andrea Hageman, Stephanie Gross and Michele DuFault gave Pittsford a strong fight to the finish, but placed third with a time of 1:56.21. Rounding out the other Fairport relays were Meghan Ingerick, Melanie Baron, Esther Shin and Jenny Chiang (4th) and Brenna O’Neill, April Miller, Staci Woytash and Marike Von Heydebrand (6th). Pittsford won the 200 free, 200 individual medley, and the 50 free. In the 200 free, Fairport’s Jenna Wood made a strong swim for a third place finish(1:58.79). Close behind were Carrie Ostrom(5th) and Katelin Webster (6). In the 200 IM, Fairport’s Emily Gardner, Melanie Baron, and Esther Shin took to the pool. Gardner was narrowly touched out and placed second with a time of 2:14.37.Shin and Baron finished (5) and (6) respectively. In the shortest event of the afternoon, the 50 free, Michelle DuFault led Fairport with a time of 26.18 (3rd), followed by Kaitlin Holden (4th) and Meghan Ingerick (6th). Jenny Chiang won the diving event for Fairport with 257.55 points. Melanie Baron placed first for the Red Raiders in the 100 breast in 1:10.01.
