Fairport swimmers down Penfield

The Fairport girls varsity swimming and diving team added to their undefeated streak with another victory last Tuesday at home against Penfield. The Lady Red Raiders needed to come from behind as the Lady Patriots grabbed the early lead after two events. Fairport came on strong to post a 105-81 victory.

Penfield won the 200 medley relay, but Fairport’s relays of Emily Gardner, Andrea Hageman, Jenna Wood, and Katelin Webster; Meghan Ingerick, Melanie Baron, Stephanie Gross, and Carrie Ostrom; and Staci Woytash, Esther Shin, April Miller, and Marike Von Heydebran finished 2-3-4,respectively.

In the 200 free, Michelle DuFault and Devina Tyagi came in second and third and were followed by Carly Coughlin in fifth.

The 200 individual medley had Fairport’s Gardner, Ostrom, and Staci Woytash finishing in first, fourth and fifth places.

Wood (25.49), Devina Tyagi(26.25) and Andrea Hageman(27.12) swept the Lady Patriots in the 50 free. Jenny Chiang won the diving event with 282.90 points.

Stephanie Gross captured the100 butterfly (1:03.79). Esther Shin and Miller finished in second and sixth places.

In the100 free, Hageman (58.12) won with Webster and Von Heydebrand second and fifth, respectively.

Gardner splashed to first place in the 500 free (5:25.23). Nicole Stuver and Nadia Keenan took fourth and sixth place finishes.

The 200 free relay teams of Hageman, Brenna O’Neill, Von Heydebrand, and Marci Woytash; and DuFault, Coughlin, Ostrom and Chiang placed second and third. In the 100 back, Wood finished first with Ingerick and Shin third and fourth, respectively.

Melanie Baron, Miller and Gross placed second, fourth and fifth in the 100 breast.

The 400 free relay of DuFault, Von Heydebrand, Coughlin and Tyagi won in 3:54.72.
