Fairport sinks Greece Arcadia, 92-75On Thursday, Jan. 18, the Fairport varsity swimming and diving team hosted the Greece Arcadia swim team. The Red Raiders added to their winning season by defeating Greece 92-75. The meet began on a festive note, as the Red Raiders hosted their Senior Salute. Coach Mike Kennedy introduced the senior from Greece and then the three Fairport seniors; captain Jake Fisher; captain Chris Razavi and Colin Endsley. The seniors walked through a tunnel of their teammates’ outstretched arms. Each senior received a red rose, which they then presented to their mothers. As the crowd cheered them on, the seniors flipped one by one off the starting blocks into the pool wearing their warm ups. The first event, the 200 medley relay, set the tone of the meet. Fairport came in first and second scoring 12 points. The team of Nate Jones, Connor Harrington, Razavi and Kyle Kauffman took first place with a time of 1:52.74. Jon Steffen, Kyle Mihaljevic, Brendan McLaughlin and Jake Robbins followed closely behind with a time of 1:54.12. The Red Raiders trio of Fisher, Jim Beaudry and Peter Koenig took 1-2-3
in the 200 Fairport picked up another nine points in the 50 free with McLaughlin, Robbins and Harrington touching for second, third and fifth place. The Red Raiders’ lead increase as the divers placed 1-2-3. Total scores for six dives were as follows: Dhruv Tyagi 228.10; Jordan Ingerick 152.30 and Endsley 136.55. Diving exhibition for Fairport were Peter Shipman and Jon Snelgrove. The trio of Jones, Kauffman and Salehi finished second, third and fourth in the 100 butterfly. Kauffman’s 1:05.50 was his best time of the season. At this point in the meet, Fairport had a 45-point lead over Greece. Fairport entered two swimmers in the 100 free; Robbins and Tyagi. Robbins was entered as exhibition and swam a personal best time of 55.10. Tyagi’s time of 58.92 placed him second and added another four points for the Red Raiders. In the 500 free, Steffen and Koenig swam exhibition. McLaughlin touched
for second Both teams entered in the 200 free relay swam for times, not points. The team of Fisher, Razavi, Salehi and Harrington out touched Beaudry, Jones, Ingerick and McLaughlin. Salehi, Harrington and Jones’ splits were their best of the season. In the 100 back, Fairport took the top two places with Mihaljevic and Kauffman both posting best times. Steffen swam exhibition. Razavi finished first in the 100 breast. His time of 1:07.16 was 13 seconds better than the second place finisher. The Fairport 400 free relay team of Robbins, Koenig, Fisher and Razavi swam the event as exhibition. Robbins’ split of 54.7 was a personal best. The final score of the meet was Fairport 92; Greece Arcadia 75.
