Fairport 101, Gates Chili 80 January 16, 2007 Fairport wins 8 events over Gates ChiliOn Tuesday, Jan. 16, the Fairport varsity swimming and diving team hosted the Gates Chili Spartans. In the first event, the 200 medley relay, Fairport got off to a good
start. The team of Chris Razavi, Jake Fisher, Dylan Scheemaker and Jim
Beaudry came in first with a winning time of 1:45.26. Jon Steffen, Brendan
McLaughlin, Connor Harrington and Peter Koenig touched for third place. Both
Steffen and McLaughlin’s splits were The Red Raiders picked up 11 points in the 200 freestyle. Nate Jones finished first, Jake Robbins came in second and Kyle Kauffman was touched out by .09 seconds to finish fifth. Both Jones and Robbins swam best times. Koenig overpowered the field in the 200 individual medley with his best time of 2:09.60, Matt McGrath followed in fourth with 2:23.24 and McLaughlin in fifth with a time of 2:28.27. The 50 free was Fisher’s first individual win of the afternoon. Steffen touched for third and Mihaljevic was sixth. All three Fairport swimmers swam their best times of the season. The Fairport diving trio of Dhruv Tyagi, Jordan Ingerick and Peter Shipman added 10 points to the score by taking first, third and fifth place. Fairport’s next strong performance was in the 100 butterfly, as Razavi, Beaudry and Aria Salehi placed first, third and fourth. All three swimmers recorded season best times. Fisher swam a fast 51.54 to clinch first place in the 100 free, his
second individual win of the day. Harrington and McGrath added points to
Fairport’s lead by finishing Fairport’s depth was evident as the trio of Jones, McLaughlin and Kauffman easily swam to a 2-3-4 finish in the 500 free. Jones and Kauffman swam personal best times and all three swimmers qualified for the sectional meet. The relay team of Razavi, Fisher, Koenig and Beaudry overpowered the
field in the The Red Raiders added another eight points with impressive swims by Beaudry (second), Steffen (third) and Salehi (fifth) in the 100 back. Salehi’s time of 1:11.00 was a personal best. All the Fairport swimmers easily qualified for the sectional meet. In the 100 breast, Harrington and Koenig swam exhibition (for times, not
points). In The 400 free relay team (McLaughlin, McGrath, Salehi and Razavi) was
entered as The final score of the meet was Fairport 101; Gates 80.
