Fairport swamps Greece Thunder

On Tuesday, Jan. 9, the Fairport Red Raiders boys swimming and diving team hosted the Greece Thunder. Fairport added another win to their season by defeating Greece 101-76.

The meet began with Greece winning the 200 medley relay. In the next event, the 200 free, Connor Harrington, Aria Salehi and Kyle Kauffman took third, fourth and fifth place. All three qualified for sectionals and Kauffman had a personal best time of 2:09.42.

The 200 individual medley trio of Jake Fisher, Jon Steffen and Kyle Mihaljevic came in second, third and fourth. Again, all three qualified for sectionals and Steffen swam a personal best.

The 50 free was an exciting race, with Dylan Scheemaker just being touched out of first place with a time of 24.54. Chris Razavi and Matt McGrath added points to Fairport's score by coming in fourth and fifth.

Attention turned to the diving well, where the Fairport diving team of Dhruv Tyagi, Colin Endsley and Jordan Ingerick scored enough points to take the top three places. At this point in the meet, Fairport took the lead and never gave it back.

The 100 butterfly was a close contest, with Fisher taking second place, Steffen third and McGrath fourth. Both Fisher and McGrath swam best times and all three swimmers easily made sectional cut times.

The next race, the 100 free, was another exciting finish. Peter Koenig touched out Greece by .26 seconds to take first place. Nate Jones and Brendan McLaughlin added points for Fairport by touching for third (55.97) and fourth (56.74). Both Koenig and Jones swam their best times of the season.

In the longest race of the night, the 500 free, Fairport again was victorious. Jim Beaudry, Harrington and Salehi came in first, second and fourth, respectively. Beaudry's time of 5:19.53 was a personal best time.

The team of Scheemaker, Fisher, McLaughlin and Beaudry took second place in the 200 free relay by finishing over seven seconds ahead of Greece.

In the 100 back event, Koenig, Razavi and Tyagi took first, third and fourth places. Koenig swam a personal best time and qualified for the state meet. Both Razavi and Tyagi swam sectional cut times.

In the last event of the meet, the 400 free relay, the team of McGrath, Salehi, Jones and Steffen easily swam to a first place finish, with a time ten seconds faster than that of the Thunder. Jones and Steffen's splits were their best this season.
