Fisher sets pool record at Canandaigua

On Dec. 22, the last day before winter break, the Fairport varsity swimming and diving team traveled to Canandaigua to swim against the Canandaigua Braves.
The Red Raiders were handed their second non-league loss of the season.

The meet began by Fairport taking the lead by winning the 200 medley relay. The team of Peter Koenig, Jake Fisher, Dylan Scheemaker and Brendan McLaughlin swam a winning time of 1:42.99.

The 200 free team of Jon Steffen, Fisher, Matt McGrath and Tyler Benson added more points for the Red Raiders by placing second, third, fifth and seventh. Steffen, McGrath and Benson posted best times for the season.

Fairport dominated in the 200 individual medley by taking second, third and fourth places. Chris Razavi’s time was 2:09.20, Connor Harrington’s 2:16.26 and Kyle
Mihaljevic’s was 2:16.92.

The team of Scheemaker, McLaughlin, Jonah King and Jacob Bianchi swam the next event, the 50 free, placing 4-6-7-8 respectively.

The one-meter diving was the next event. Freshman Dhruv Tyagi scored a personal best of 244.50, remaining undefeated so far this season. Jordan Ingerick, Peter Shipman and Colin Endsley added to Fairport’s score by placing fifth, sixth and seventh. Ingerick and Shipman also had their best performances of the season.

Scheemaker, Koenig and Harrington placed 2-3-4 in the 100 butterfly. Their times were 58.96, 59.25 and 1:02.51 respectively.

Jake Robbins touched for fourth in the 100 free, with a best time of 56.37. King, Tyler Santini and Ted Rakiewicz finished sixth, seventh and eighth.

In the 500 free, Red Raiders took second (Steffen), third (McGrath), fifth (Benson) and sixth (Kauffman) places. Steffen, McGrath and Benson had their best swims of the season.

Scheemaker, Jones, Steffen and Harrington swam to second place in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:40.49. Fairport’s depth in the 100 back was evident, as Koenig,
Jones, Tyagi and Jacob Horowitz placed 1-3-4-7. Jones, Tyagi and Horowitz all clocked best times.

Fisher added to his impressive list of outstanding swims in the 100 breast. Fisher’s time of 1:00.70 not only won the event for Fairport, but also set a pool record that had been held since 1998. Solid swims by Razavi, Mihaljevic and Robbins helped to fire up the rest of the team as they prepared for the final event, the 400 freestyle relay.

The team of Steffen, Koenig, Fisher and Razavi took second place with a time of 3:37.87 and McGrath, Jones, Mihaljevic and Robbins took third with a time of 3:50.02. The final score of the meet was Fairport 147, Canandaigua 168.
