Penfield nips Fairport, 99-87

The Fairport boys varsity swimming and diving team hosted Penfield on Tuesday, Dec. 5. In a tough meet, the boys were bested by a score of 99-87.

Throughout the meet Fairport had a number of great performances with every swimmer in every race making the sectional cut time in the first meet of the
season.

In the 200 medley relay, the team of Peter Koenig, Chris Razavi, Jon Steffan, and Dylan Scheemaker took second with a time of 1:45.66. Nate Jones, Kyle
Mihaljevic, Connor Harrington, and Brendan McLaughlin finished fourth.

In the next event, the 200 free, the trio of Jake Fisher, Steffan, and Aria Salehi took second, fifth, and sixth, respectively. Fisher touched at 1:52.50, Steffan swam to a 1:58.91, and Salehi finished in 2:05.62. Both Fisher and Salehi swam personal
best times.

In the 200 individual medley, all three Fairport swimmers made the sectional cut as well. Razavi took second with a time of 2:09.89, with Kyle Kaufman and Mihaljevic in third and fifth with personal best times.

In a very tight 50 free race, Jim Beaudry swam to a second place finish in 23.71 with
Scheemaker in third and McLaughlin in fifth with a personal best time.

In his first varsity diving contest, Dhruv Tyagi easily took first place with an impressive
score of 191.45 for six dives. Senior Colin Endsley took fifth. Both divers achieved personal high scores.

Immediately following diving, Tyagi swam to a sixth place finish in the 100 butterfly with a personal best time of 1:08.56. Koenig took second and Steffan finished in fourth place.

The 100 freestyle was the next event and the team of Beaudry, Scheemaker, and McLaughlin finished second, third and fifth. Beaudry touched at 51.46 while
Scheemaker and McLaughlin both swam personal bests.

Harrington, Salehi, and Jones competed in the 500 free, finishing in third, fourth, and fifth. With Harrington swimming a 5:36.74, Salehi was right behind at 5:39.72 and Jones touched at 5:44.36. Both Salehi and Jones achieved personal best times.

Fairport’s two teams in the 200 free relay swam to first and fifth place finishes. The team of Beaudry, Scheemaker, Fisher, and McLaughlin posted a 1:33.93. Kauffman, Salehi, Tyagi, and Harrington swam to a 1:54.81.

In a very close race, Koenig was touched out in the 100 back. His time of 57.30 took second. Teammate Chris Razavi finished third and Nate Jones touched for fourth place. Both Razavi and Jones posted personal best times.

Fisher won the 100 breast with a time of 1:00.65. His swim qualified him to compete at the state meet. Mihaljevic swam a personal best, finishing third and Harrington took fifth.

The meet came down to the 400 free relay. If Fairport finished first and second, they
would win the meet. The team of Beaudry, Koenig, Razavi, and Fisher finished second with a time of 3:30.62. Kauffman, Steffan, Salehi, and Jones touched
at 3:55.55, finishing third.

JV Raiders break 100-point mark

On Dec, 5, the Fairport junior varsity swim team defeated the visiting Penfield Patriots 105-70 in the season opening meet. It had been over six years since a Fairport JV team has broken the 100-point mark.

The JV Raiders got it started in the opening 200 medley relay event. The team of Jacob Horowitz, Jake Robbins, Zakk Vice and Jacob Bianchi finished first with a time of 2:01.17 followed by a second place finish of Andrew Koenig, Jim Rafoth, Kyle
Koehler and Ted Rakiewicz.

In the 200 free, Tyler Benson touched first with a time of 2:07.98 followed by Matt
McGrath and Brandon Georger.

Robbins and Vice then went first and third in the 200 IM to build on the lead. Jonah King went a 26.09 to bring home a 1, 2, 3 finish in the 50 free along with Bianchi and Tyler Santini.

With the team leading 44-17 the action moved to the diving well where Jordan Ingerick placed second followed by Peter Shipman and Nick Greco in third and fourth.

In the 50 fly, Koehler swam a first place finish with Vice taking second. The 100 free had the team looking to repeat a 1, 2, 3 finish, but in a close race, Rakiewicz came in second followed by Santini and Bianchi.

The 500 free had Benson taking first with a best time of 5:45.85 followed by Georger and Mike Lopes. In the 200 free relay the team of King, Koehler, Rakiewicz, McGrath finished first followed by Jonathan Nemeth, Santini, Lopes and Benson.

The team broke the century mark with a 1, 2, 3 finish in the 100 back with McGrath taking first followed by Horowitz and Koenig.
