She-Sharks compete in state swim meet

   

Erin McGraw wins two individual
events and one relay title.

 

November 17, 2006 - Members of the Fairport varsity swim and dive team competed
at the New York Sate Public High School State swim meet Nov. 17 and 18 at Erie Community College in Buffalo.

Members of the team competing were Erin McGraw, Lauren DuFault, Morgan Reisch, Andrea Hageman, Stephanie Gross, Emily Gardner, Devina Tyagi, Jenny Chiang and Jenna Wood.

In the first event of the meet, the 200 medley relay, the Fairport relay of Emily Gardner, Andrea Hageman, Stephanie Gross and Morgan Reisch posted of time of
1:53.95 and an 11th place finish.

In the second event, the 200 freestyle, senior co-captain, Erin McGraw posted a first place finish in a time of 1:50.76. Her time also established a Section 5 record for the 200 freestyle event.

In the 200 individual medley, Fairport teammates, Lauren DuFault, Jenna Wood and Emily Gardner competed. Senior Lauren DuFault posted a fifth place finish with a time of 2:07.98, sophomore Jenna Wood posted a ninth place finish with a time of
2:11.18 and junior Emily Gardner posted a 30th place finish with a time of 2:15.51.

Junior Devina Tyagi competed in the next event, the 50 freestyle. Tyagi posted a time of 24.77 and a 17th place finish.

In the diving competition, sophomore Jenny Chiang continued her dominance of this event. Chiang finished with 468.30 points earning herself and Section 5 a third place finish in statewide competition.

In the 100 butterfly, McGraw continued her dominance as well. She sprinted to a first place finish with a winning time of 55.79.

The 100 free saw teammate Lauren DuFault, posting a time of 53.60 and earning an 11th place finish.

In the longest event of the state meet, the 500 freestyle, Emily Gardner earned a 38th
place finish with a time of 5:20.78.

Fairport relays continued to show their strength in the 200 freestyle relay event. The relay of McGraw, Tyagi, Wood and DuFault combined for an impressive time of 1:37.04 and a first place finish.

In the 100 back, Tyagi finished with a time of 1:01.27 and a 16th place finish.

In the last event of the statewide competition, the 400 freestyle relay, the Fairport relay of McGraw, DuFault, Wood and Tyagi knew the competition would be tough. The Fairport relay finished with a second place showing and a time of 3:32.65. The Fairport relay also established a Section 5 record for the 400 freestyle relay.

Overall, Section 5 finished in first place for the 2006 NYSPHSAA and Fairport finished in second place for the large school ranking for the 2006 NYSPHSAA.
