Fairport swimmers take 3rd in sectionals

   

 

Section 5 Swimming Championships were decided Sunday, Feb.16, at SUNY Brockport.

In the 200 medley relay, Fairport's Peter Koenig, Dylan Scheemaker, and Aram Salehi swam personal bests and with help from by a good swim by Jake Fisher took 3rd in a time of 1:41.00. Sophomore Jim Beaudry covered the 200 freestyle in 1:51.98 placing fifth in a strong field that had all of the top four finishers swim state qualifying times.

Red Raider Jake Fisher broke through and swam a state qualifying time in the 200 individual medley, first in the preliminary Friday night and again on Sunday, taking sixth in a time of 2:04.47.

Senior Aram Salehi took third place in the 50 freestyle in a personal best time of 22.99. In the preliminaries of same event, Fairport's Scheemaker and George Wasickanin also swam personal best times. Salehi was the Red Raider's top finisher in the 100 freestyle swimming another personal best time of 50.95 in the preliminaries and placing first in the B grouping in the finals.

Senior Jerry Woytash, in his last meet as a Raider, swam a personal best time 5:13.12 which was good for first place in the B group. In the 200 freestyle relay, Salehi, Fisher and Scheemaker were helped by a personal best time from Wasickanin as the team took fifth in 1:35.14.

Then Koenig earned third place for Fairport in the 100 back and he swam a state qualifying time of 56.54 in the prelims.

In the next event, Fisher swam his second state qualifying finishing second with a time of 1:01.08 in the 100 breast. In the same event Chris Razavi swam a personal best 1:04.11 in the prelims and another strong swim earned him fifth place in the finals.

Between the sectional preliminaries and finals, the Red Raider swimmers recorded 23 personal best and eight of those swims by departing seniors, Woytash (2), Salehi (3) and Wasickanin (3).
