Coach Mike Kennedy is pleased with the improvement he sees in the young Fairport swim team.

On Tuesday, Jan. 10, Fairport traveled to Greece to face Athena/Odyssey. The Thunder started fast, winning the first three events, but Fairport was able to pick up valuable points with second and third place finishes.

In the 200 medley relay, the team of Chris Razavi, Jake Fisher, Dylan Scheemaker and George Wasickanin finished second. Then Jim Beaudry swam to another second place finish in the 200 free. The trio of Peter Koenig and Jerry Woytash contributed by taking second, third and fourth, respectively in the 200 individual medley.

Fairport finally took the lead in the meet when Aram Salehi touched the wall first in 24:36 to win the 50 freestyle. The score at that point was 32-30 in favor of the Red Raiders.

Fairport's divers added to that lead with Eric Hallimen turning in his best performance of the year (186.60) finishing first in one-meter diving with teammate Pat Dineen taking second.

The Thunder recorded eight first place finishes out of the 12 events so the Red Raiders had to depend on their team's depth to garner critical points. Fairport's Scheemaker delivered in the 100 butterfly with a strong second place finish while Jake Fisher and Jerry Woytash swam to second and third in the 500 freestyle. Sandwiched in between those events was a much needed first place finish by Beaudry, covering the 100 freestyle in 52:20.

Fairport was able to protect their lead with good swims by the relay team of Beaudry, Scheemaker, Wasickanin and Salehi in the 200 freestyle followed second place finishes by Peter Koenig in the 100 backstroke and Razavi in the 100 breast. Fairport improved to 5-1 with the final score 95-85.
