Yang's win in 500 freestyle helps Fairport to easy victory

The Red Raiders end the regular season with a 10-1 record.

On Tuesday, Oct. 25 the Fairport girls varsity senior swimmers and their parents were honored in a pre-game ceremony at Fairport swimming pool.

Recognized were captains Becky Bersani, Heather Moore and Gretchen Schroeder, and their senior teammates Carly Callan, Rebecca Kraft and Sarah Lakehal-Ayat. After the ceremony, the seniors helped push the team to a victory against Greece Arcadia/Olympia.

The meet began with the Fairport 200 medley relay teams taking first and second. The first place team included Staci Woytash, Erin McGraw, Emily Gardner and Andrea Hageman. Taking second was Katelin Webster, Devina Tyagi, April Miller and Carlan Robboy. Jenna Wood finished first in the 200 free and Tiffany Chiang finished third. Both girls had personal best times. Carrie Ostrom finished first in the 200 individual medley, while Woytash, with a personal best time, touched in with a close second. Lauren Dufault sped to a first place finish in the 50 free, with teammate Hageman coming in third.

Fairport divers for this meet were all seniors, and they showed what strong leadership they have been providing though out the year. Coming in first, with a personal best time, was Gretchen Schroeder. Becky Bersani came in second, and Rebecca Kraft came in third (1-2-3 sweep).

Turning back to the swimming pool for the sixth event, Fairport chalked up another 1-2-3 sweep, this time in the 100 butterfly. McGraw finished first, Stephanie Gross finished second, and Woytash finished third. Nicole Stuver came in second in the 100 free, with a personal best time, and Brenna O'Neill followed in third. Susan Yang, with a personal best time, finished first in the 500 free event.

The senior team of Bersani, Schroeder, Kraft and Sarah Lakehal-Ayat finished second in the 200 free relay. Senior Carly Callan took second in the 100 back. O'Neill took second in the 100 breast, with a personal best time, and Morgan Reisch took third. In the last event, the senior team of Bersani, Schroeder, Kraft and Moore came in second in the 400 free relay. Final score: Fairport 102, Greece 71.
