The senior All-American is named Swimmer of the Meet (March 6, 2005) — Senior Jeff Wood of Fairport won two events and earned Swimmer of the Meet honors in the state high school swimming championships at Nassau County Aquatic Center on Saturday. Wood won the 200-yard freestyle (1 minute, 41.57 seconds) and 100 backstroke (50.68), earning All-American status in both events. "I felt a little tired today in the 200 freestyle, but it was a good race," Wood said. "I knew Brian (Possee) would be there. We're close in every race we have." Possee, of Pittsford, finished second, .10 second behind. "I was happy with my swim in the 100 backstroke, but my goal was to break 50 seconds," Wood added. "I still have a couple of meets left to achieve my goals. I have a USA sectional meet on Long Island in four days (Thursday through Sunday) and Junior Nationals in Orlando (Fla.)." Section V won its ninth straight public/combined team title.
