Red Raider Swimmers Shine at Invitational

   

Fairport wins 5 events

December 19, 2004 - The Fairport High School swim team competed at the Owego Invitational on Dec. 18. This meet included 8 teams from across New York State, including some of the best such as Pittsford, Shenendehowa, Newburgh, and Vestal.

The Red Raider quartet of Jerry Woytash, Jake Fisher, Hans Feng, and Aram Salehi finished 4th in the 200 yard medley relay in 1:46.98. Pete Koenig, Chris Razavi, Connor Harrington, and George Wasickanin placed 11th. In the 200 yard freestyle, Jeff Wood held off a tough Pittsford opponent in a pool and meet record time of 1:43.40, also the fastest time in NY State this year. Jim Beaudry placed 6th in 1:55.90, and Salehi was 7th in 1:57.70. Tim Jacobs finished in 2:03.07, and Wasickanin in 2:11.92.

Jeff Kaemmerlen was 2nd in the 200 individual medley in 2:03.70, barely touched out at the finish. Fisher was 6th in 2:07.72, and Razavi added more points in 13th in 2:17.38. Feng placed 10th in the 50 freestyle in 24.00 seconds. Other Red Raider swimmers were Woytash in 25.77, Nate Morales in 27.30, Harrington in 27.31, Dietrich Pate in 27.85, and John Jacobs in 28.71.

Wood won his 2nd event by swimming another meet record, pool record, and State #1 time of 51.93 seconds in the 100 yard butterfly. Feng was 5th in 57.69, Woytash 15th in 1:04.88, and Koenig swam in 1:06.86. Kaemmerlen earned his second 2nd place finish in the 100 yard freestyle, again in a very close race start to finish, in a time of 49.63 seconds. Beaudry was 7th in 52.85, Morales finished in 58.61 and Wasickanin in 58.88. In the 500 yard freestyle, Salehi was 5th in 5:19.78, and J. Jacobs finished in 6:51.56.

Fairport has a long tradition of outstanding relay performances, and this meet was no exception. In the 200 yard freestyle relay Kaemmerlen gave the Red Raiders an early lead, Beaudry and Salehi swam solid legs, and Wood closed with a very fast split to get Fairport the win in 1:31.32. T. Jacobs, Harrington, Morales, and Razavi placed 14th.

Razavi notched the #8 spot in the 100 backstroke in 1:02.19, Koenig was 12th in 1:05.37, and Pate swam in 1:15.59. Fisher earned the 4th Red Raider victory with a 1:02.19 swim in the 100 yard breaststroke, another exciting race. T. Jacobs was 14th in 1:13.93, and Harrington touched the wall in 1:16.33.

The final event of the meet was one of the most exciting. The 400 yard freestyle relay foursome of Kaemmerlen, Beaudry, Feng, and Wood won a very close race in 3:20.10, with Wood’s split of 46.60 seconds key to securing the win. Woytash, Wasickanin, T. Jacobs, and Fisher finished 8th .

As a team, Fairport placed 3rd overall.
