James Johnson Staff writer (October 15, 2004) — Unbeaten and perhaps unstoppable, the Pittsford girls swim team remains in a winning groove. Pittsford topped rival Fairport 107-79 after Hailey Weniger won two individual races and helped two relays to first-place finishes Thursday night at Mendon High. |

Steph House, Courtney Brayman and Kelly Groves also swam on two first-place
relays during the Monroe County league meet for Pittsford (3-0 league, 8-0
overall). "We can get up to race when we need to," Pittsford senior Courtney Brayman said. Pittsford, the two-time defending Section V Class A champion, has won 39 consecutive dual meets. It's not close to the sectional record, but Pittsford is again clearly in charge of the pool of title contenders. "They don't have a weak spot, (they are) solid in all 12 events," Fairport coach Mike Kennedy said. "It's tough and a challenge for our program. "We had our years, and now it's their years." Pittsford coach Marty Keating will need to replace just five seniors next season. At least one individual or relay has set a pool record during all three of Pittsford's away meets. "It's about getting the confidence that they need," Keating said. "You get a girl like Lindsay Wahl. She has to come out of the backstroke of the (200-yard) medlay relay and get (immediately) into the 200 freestyle. Right now, she's well ahead of where she was last year at this time." Weniger, unbeaten at league meets this season, isn't in bad shape either. The junior swam to victories in the 200 and 500 freestyle races on Thursday before she jumped on Pittsford's first-place 200 and 400 freestyle relays. House, Jenna Arington, Groves and Weniger swam the fastest-reported 200 free relay race in Section V this season, 1 minute and 41 seconds. Jenny Lewis, Jessie Ward, Groves and Brayman own the section's top 200 medley relay time swimming 1:52.40. Fairport's Erin McGraw won the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly. Lauren Dufault earned first-place points for Fairport in the 200 individual medley and 100 freestyle. Urged on by schoolmates who painted themselves in their school colors, swimmers beat state-cut times in all 11 races. "They are a really strong team," Pittsford senior Libby Brush said. "So it's always a strong, fast meet. The energy is just contagious even though you're dead tired from all the practices. It psyches you up."
