She-Sharks sink Irondequoit for second victory

Erin McGraw breaks six-year-old butterfly record.

The Fairport varsity She-Sharks claimed their second victory of the season at home against Irondequoit on Sept. 20, 105-78.

The meet began with a beautiful rendition of the Star Spangled Banner sung by sophomore Taylor DesRosiers.

Opening the meet in the 200 medley relay, the team of Erin McGraw, Clare Ostrom, Lauren Dufault, and Stephanie Yorio nailed first place with a winning time of 2:00.85. The team of Jenn Kaminska, Lindsey Burris, Stephanie Gross, and Heather Moore took third place, while the team of Staci Woytash, Tiffany Chiang, Emily Gardner, and Susan Yang took fourth.

Marlys Fuqua placed first in the 200 free event with a winning time of 2:00.13. Kendra Hogg captured third and Carrie Ostrom finished fifth for Fairport.

In the 200 IM, Dufault finished first with a time of 2:16.55, closely followed by Morgan Reisch in second place, and Sarah Lakehal-Ayat taking sixth.

The 50 free saw Moore in second, Stephanie Yorio in third and Carly Callan in fifth.

The Fairport varsity divers showed their expertise. Placing first for Fairport was Becky Bersani with a score of 193.25, Gretchen Schroeder came in a close second with 188.05 and Becca Craft finished third with 150.7.

The highlight of the meet was Erin McGraw breaking a six-year old record in the 100 butterfly, with a time of 58.86. Fairport's Kaminska finished third and Carly Callan came in fifth.

Next came the 100 free with Clare Ostrom finishing in second with a time of 59.79 and Yorio and Burris finishing fourth and fifth, respectively.

The 500 free had Gardner finishing first with the time of 5:40.03, Woytash in second, and Gross in fifth.

In an exciting 200 free relay, the team of Hogg, Dufault, Moore and Yorio came in first with a time of 1:50.87. Placing fourth overall was the team of Carrie Ostrom, Lakehal-Ayat, Chiang and Callan. Swimming exhibition was Yang, McGraw, Woytash and Clare Ostrom.

Strong finishes in the 100 back saw Reisch taking first with a 1:09.70, Kaminska third and Fuqua swam exhibition.

Burris took second in the 100 breast with a time of 1:17.65, Gross third and Chiang fourth.

The final relay of the meet saw all three Fairport teams swimming exhibition. The first was made of McGraw, Woytash, Clare Ostrom and DuFault. Second, Fuqua, Yang, Reisch and Gardner. The final team consisted of Carrie Ostrom, Yorio, Lakehal-Ayat and Hogg.

The season record is 2-0.
