September 9, 2004

On Thursday, Sept. 9, the Fairport girls swimming and diving team hosted
Churchville-Chili in the season opening meet.

Coaches Mike Kennedy, Marci Callan and Dave Salmon are looking forward to a
successful and exciting 2004 season.

This year's squad of returning veterans and new varsity swimmers and divers are led
by senior co-captains Clare Ostrom and Marlys Fuqua, who are both four-year varsity
swimmers.

The first event of the afternoon was the always exciting 200-yard medley relay
where a team of four girls each swims a 50-yard leg of the race with every leg
being a different stroke (backstroke, breast stroke, fly and freestyle). The
Fairport team of Lauren DuFault, Morgan Reisch, Erin McGraw and Devina Tyagi took first in the event with a time of 2:01.51 followed by the second place team of
Marlys Fuqua, Jenn Kaminska, Tiffany Chiang, and Carrie Ostrom in a time of 2:06.44. The team of Susan Yang, Sarah Lakehal-Ayat, Steph Yorio and Steph Gross had a strong showing with a time of 2:20.12.

The 200 free came next where Fairport swept the top three spots with solid swims by
Emily Gardner in 2:07.60, Clare Ostrom in 2:09.03 and Staci Woytash in 2:15.92. The challenging 200 individual medley saw Fuqua take first in 2:17.40 followed by
Heather Moore in third with a time of 2:40.36 and Carly Callan in fourth with
2:43.57. Morgan Reisch led the sprinters in the 50 free with a winning time of
27.19 with fourth place going to Yorio in 28.69 and Kaminska finishing in fifth
with 29.24.

The action was next seen in the diving well where acrobatic grace and timing was
showcased. The entire swim team cheered on the divers as last year's Section 5
champion Becky Bersani and top 10 finishers Gretchen Schroeder and Becca Kraft took to the boards. Bersani dove cleanly for a first place finish of 194.10. Schroeder
came in second place with 186.55 and Kraft followed in fourth with a strong
performance worth 150.5.

The swimming resumed in the pool with the 100 fly. Fairport's DuFault touched the
wall in first with 1:03.76 followed by Gross in second with 1:07.50 and Moore swam
for exhibition in 1:12.00.

Reisch led the She-Sharks to victory in the 100 free (59.17) followed by Kendra
Hogg in second (1:00.85) while Chiang swam a strong exhibition race in 1:02.87.

The longest event of the afternoon had strong performances by first place finisher
McGraw in 5:20.89 followed in second by Gardner in 5:55.03 and Tyagi taking fourth
in 6:05.37. The 200 free relay finished with the Fairport team of Moore, Yorio,
Gardner and Hogg taking first in 1:52.31 followed by third place finishers
Lakehal-Ayat, Woytash, Chiang and Gross in 1:58.89.

swimmers.

The culminating event of the meet, the 400 free relay, saw a team composed of
seniors take first place. Kaminska, Hogg, Clare Ostrom, and Fuqua had a time of
4:02.96. The teams of Chiang, Gardner, Gross, and Tyagi (4:12.31) and Callan,
