The Fairport swimming and diving team returned from their practices over the holiday break ready for some meet competition as they took on Rush-Henrietta at home.

The Red Raiders were ready even without the services of one of their leaders, Jon Roberts, who was competing and practicing in Australia as a member of the United States Junior National team, a group of about 40 of the best 17 and under swimmers in the country.

Coach Mike Kennedy set up two evenly matched Fairport foursomes for the medley relay and they didn't disappoint as Jeff Kaemmerlen, Matt McGraw, Jerry Woytash, and George Wasickanin barely touched out Adam Craghead, Hans Feng, Cyrus Salehi, and Nick Mihaljevic in a 1-2 finish. Reed Smith, Aram Salehi, Tim Jacobs, and Alex Hensel also swam well.

Pete Letteney easily won the 200 yard freestyle in 2:03.21, followed by Chris Razavi in 2:10.47 and Nate Morales in 2:14.68. The 200 individual medley was a Fairport 1-2-3 sweep by Kaemmerlen, Cyrus Salehi, and Woytash.

McGraw won the 50 free in 23.32 seconds, ahead of Feng in third in 24.61 and Mihaljevic in fourth in 26.66. Eric Hallimen was second in the diving event with 135.4 points, and Pat Dineen placed third with 112.85.

Craghead returned the Red Raiders to the win column in the 100 butterfly in 1:02.44, with Letteney in 1:04.16 and Hensel in 1:10.10 completing a 1-2-3 sweep. In a closely contested 100 free, Aram Salehi placed second with a 54.84 second swim, followed by Jacobs third in 55.10 and Wasickanin fourth in 58.62.

Mihaljevic finished strong in the 500 free to win in 5:33.29. Morales in third and Reed in fourth also provided more Fairport points.

Feng, Cyrus Salehi, Kaemmerlen, and Hensel won the 200 free relay in 1:37.20. All-American junior Jeff Wood swam for the first time this season following his absence due to injury and clocked a very impressive 21.92 split in this event, helping his teammates Aram Salehi, Letteney, and Wasickanin to a close second place finish in 1:37.47.

McGraw notched his second win of the meet in the 100 backstroke with a solid 57.78 second swim. Razavi was second in 1:05.88 and Feng fourth in 1:09.09. Jacobs won the 100 breast in 1:13.39, Smith second in 1:15.35 and Woytash fifth in 1:21.98.

Fairport finished the meet placing 1-3 in the 400 freestyle relay. Morales, Mihaljevic, Hensel, and Letteney claimed the win and Wasickanin, Dineen, Woytash, and Smith scored Fairport's final points.

With this win by a 99-73 score, Fairport is now 5-1 for the season.
