December 4, 2003 By Rick Schmitt When you think about swimming in New York state in the past 20 years, there has basically been one school that continues to be the team to beat year in and year out… Fairport. In the past 15 years there has only been two Monroe County schools to beat Fairport (Pittsford and Greece), but now you can add another, Penfield. On Dec. 4, the Patriots defeated Fairport 109-77. Penfield took eight of 12 events en route to its first victory over the Raiders for the first time in 28 years. The meet featured much excitement with Fairport recording three pool records and many close races. Fairport junior Jon Roberts broke the 100 butterfly (51.71) and 100 breaststroke (58.24) records and was also a member of the 200 medley relay pool record (1:39.86). Both schools finished last season ranked in the top five in the state, with Fairport ranked second and Penfield fifth.
