(November 23, 2003) — EAST MEADOW — After suffering through an
injury-plagued junior season, Honeoye Falls-Lima senior Libby Snyder is a
state champion. Snyder won the 50-yard freestyle in 23.80 seconds at the
NYSPHSAA Swimming and Diving Championships on Saturday at Nassau Aquatic
Center on Long Island.
Snyder also took second in the 100 freestyle (51.88). Last year, Snyder
missed much of the season with shoulder and elbow injuries and took third in
the 50 freestyle and eighth in the 100 freestyle at states.
Pittsford went to states last year looking to win the 200 medley relay but
finished third. This year, the Panthers slipped to fourth in the 200 medley
relay (1:51.23) but Stephanie House, Susan Allen, Hailey Weniger and Kate
Wilson made up for it by winning the 200 freestyle relay (1:38.35).
Pittsford also took fourth in the 400 freestyle relay (3:40.19).
Webster Schroeder’s Erika Matheis, Section V’s only state champion last
year, took second in 1-meter diving with 442.95 points.
Fairport freshman Melanie Roberts took second in the 100 breaststroke
(1:05.42) and fourth in the 200 individual medley (2:07.91).
Roberts also helped Fairport place second in the 200 medley relay (1:48.49).
