Medley Relay Places 2nd in State Meet |

November 22, 2003 East Meadow, NY - The She Sharks finish second in the state to rival Pittsford. Erin Legg, Marlys Fuqua, Lauren Dufault, Erin McGraw and Melanie Roberts of the Fairport She-Sharks along with 24 other Section 5 swimmers and divers ended their 2003 season at the New York State Championship Meet. They traveled to the Nassau Aquatic Center on Long Island Thursday, Nov. 20, and came home Saturday, Nov. 22, as the 2003 New York State Swimming and Diving Champions. As the state record holders, Fairport knew that they were the one's to beat in the 200 medley relay. The team of McGraw, Roberts, Legg and Dufault swam very well, beating their state record time swimming an All-American time of 1:48.39. The team from Orchard Park just out touched them giving Fairport a second place finish. Fuqua swam a strong 200 freestyle placing seventh. Roberts and Legg represented Fairport in the 200 IM. They both swam well finishing seventh and 12th, respectively. Legg than swam a best time of 59.04 to an eighth place finish in the 100 butterfly. The 100 freestyle was next with McGraw placing eighth. Fuqua followed with a 13th place finish in the 500 freestyle distance event. The 200 freestyle relay team of McGraw, Fuqua, Dufault and Legg also swam an All-American time. Their time of 1:39.37 earned them third place honors. Another All-American time was reached by Roberts, who placed second in the 100 breast stroke. Section 5 won the state meet with a score 617 points. Section 6 of Buffalo was second with 542 points. The Fairport girls placed second in the state with 198 points following Pittsford who placed first with 234 points. At the meet, Erin Legg was awarded the New York State Good Sports Award. The Fairport She-Sharks completed a very successful season with an 11-1 record. They will have their year ending banquet at Eagle Vale on Dec. 15.
