October 2, 2003 Fairport, NY - Swimming before an overflowing crowd, the
Fairport varsity She-Sharks faced their biggest meet of the season - the
undefeated Pittsford Panthers last Thursday.
The meet began with the 200 medley relay team of Erin McGraw, Melanie
Roberts, Erin Legg and Marlys Fuqua taking first place and setting a new
pool record of 1:51.56. The teams of Carly Callan, Lindsey Burris, Stephanie
Yorio and Morgan Reisch placing fourth followed by Laura Kolb, Jenn Kaminska,
Carrie Kroll and Emily Vaughn placing sixth.
In the 200 free, M. Fuqua placed second with Lauren Dufault and Suzanne
Flynn
swimming best times placing third and fifth. Legg won the 200 individual
medley,
Clare Ostrom took fifth and Burris touched in sixth.
The very exciting 50 free sprint was next. McGraw was just out touched to
place
second with a time of 25.34. Heather Moore and Kendra Hogg both swam best
times touching in fifth and sixth places.
The meet moved to the diving well where Becky Bersani, Lauren Fuqua and
Gretchen Schroeder took to the boards for Fairport. All three divers made
strong showings, with Schroeder placing second, Bersani third and Fuqua
fourth.
Returning to the pool, Roberts nailed first place in the 100 fly. Reisch and
Kaminska placed fifth and sixth both with best times. Another exciting race
was the
100 free. With less than .5 of a second difference between first and third
places,
Legg swam to a third place finish while Moore and Hogg placed fifth and
sixth.
The 500 free distance event was next. For Fairport, M. Fuqua was second,
Default
third and Flynn fifth. Next, the 200 free relays churned up the water as the
team
of McGraw, M. Fuqua, Dufault and Legg were out touched by .04 for a second
place
finish. Moore, Reisch, Flynn and Ostrom placed fourth while Vaughn, Kroll,
Kim
Kenney and Sarah Lakehal-Ayat placed sixth.
Touching in first for Fairport in the 100 back was McGraw with a winning
time of
1:01.26. Callan was fifth and Laura Kolb touched in sixth. Fairport went
1-4-5 in
the 100 breast. Roberts won in 1:07.82, followed by Ostrom and Burris.
The last event of the meet was the 400 free relay. Moore, Dufault, Ostrom
and
Roberts placed second; Reisch, Hogg, Yorio and Flynn were fourth and
Lakehal-Ayat, Kenney, Kroll and Vaughn were fifth.
Fairport swam well with 26 best times put in, but could not overcome the
depth that
the Pittsford team had. Pittsford handed Fairport their first loss of the
season
winning 108-78.
