Weniger’s pair of wins propels Pittsford
Staff report
FAIRPORT — Hailey Weniger won two events as Pittsford defeated Fairport
108-78 in a matchup of undefeated Monroe County girls swimming teams.
Weniger won the 200-yard freestyle in 1 minute, 59.41 seconds and the 500
freestyle (5:18.17) for Pittsford (8-0).
“I expected it to be a little closer, but I also expected to win,” said
Pittsford coach Marty Keating. “We’re better than we were last year, and
last year we were a very good team. We basically have the whole team back from last year.”
Melanie Roberts won the 100 butterfly (59.86) and the 100 breaststroke
(1:07.82) for Fairport (7-1), which won five out of 12 events but could
not match Pittsford’s depth.
“They gave us some real good races,” Keating said.
Pittsford won its first Section V Class A Championship since 1991 last
year, ending Fairport’s five-year winning streak. The Panthers don’t
expect to have to wait another 11 years for their next sectional title.
“We’re looking forward to sectionals,” Keating said.
