Hilton, NY - The Fairport High School girls varsity swim team opened the 2003 season in strong fashion with two decisive wins, beating Hilton by the score of 87-47 and Greece Lightning 101-59. Both meets included several personal best times by the Fairport swimmers which is a great accomplishment this early in the season.

Against Hilton, the Fairport team opened up with a 1-2 punch in the 200 medley relay. The team of Erin McGraw, Lindsay Burris, Stephanie Yorio, and Melanie Roberts finished first followed closely by the team of Marlys Fuqua, Clare Ostrom, Carrie Kroll, and Heather Moore.

Fairport then swept the top three spots in the 200 free with Kendra Hogg leading the way with a time of 2:15.8. Following in second and third places were Sarah Lakehal-Ayat and Kim Kenny. The 200 individual medley saw another Fairport sweep with Marlys Fuqua, Moore, and Carly Callan capturing the top three spots.

Erin Legg turned in the top time in the 50 free with a strong performance of 25.95. Legg was followed by Yorio in second while Emily Vaughn finished in the scoring in fourth.

Fairport has a deep diving squad this year and showed its strength with a 1-2-3 sweep. Becky Bersani took the top spot with 155.65 points with Gretchen Schroeder and Becky Kraft finishing in second and third. Following the diving break the Fairport swimmers posted the top three times in the 100 fly with Ostrom finishing in 1:07.31 followed by Kroll and Burris.

Legg swam to an excellent time of 55.97 in the 100 free with Roberts and Vaughan finishing in second and fourth. McGraw then finished first in the 500 free with a solid performance of 5:30.04. The 200 free relay provided the Fairport girls an opportunity to demonstrate their team depth with a 1-2 finish. The team of Moore, Hogg, Legg, and Ostrom posted the top time with Burris, Vaughan, Suzanne Flynn and Marlys Fuqua in close pursuit. Roberts, Callan, and Yorio then swam well in the 100 back finishing in first, second, and fourth.

In the 100 breast, McGraw, Kenny, and Kroll led yet another 1-2-3 sweep for the Sharks. The Fairport team then finished off the meet just as it started with a 1-2 sweep in the 400 free relay. The team of Ostrom, Marlys Fuqua, Lakehal-Ayat, and Callan took the top spot while Moore, Vaughn, Burris, and Kenny took the silver.
