Swimmers Victorious over Gates Chili

Rochester, NY - The undefeated Fairport varsity swim team traveled to Gates Chili for its seventh dual meet of the season.

Jon Roberts, Jeff Kaemmerlen, Matt McGraw, and Cyrus Salehi swam to a second place finish in the opening event, the 200 yard medley relay, followed by Pete Letteney, Cuyler O'Brien, Hans Feng, and Jerry Woytash in third place.

Andy Amyot produced the Red Raiders' first win of the meet in the 200 free in the solid time of 1:52.78, followed by Tim Jacobs in third in 2:02.61. The 200 yard individual medley was claimed by Salehi in 2:17.04, ahead of O'Brien in 2:26.29.

The next event was the 50 free, won by Jeff Wood in a fast 22.98 seconds, followed by Kaemmerlen in third. Ryan McLaughlin performed consistently to win the diving with 221.45 points.

The 100 butterfly was a closely contested race. Kurt Schwarz was narrowly edged by his Gates Chili opponent for second in 57.90 seconds, Salehi placing third in 1:01.72, contributing more points to Fairport's commanding lead.

Letteney placed second in the 100 free in 55.50 seconds, ahead of Woytash in fourth place in 58.99. Jacobs produced his first win of the season in the distance event, the 500 free, in 5:40.21. O'Brien finished third.

Fairport then showed its impressive speed in the 200 free relay. Roberts, Wood, McGraw, and Amyot won the event in a sizzling pool record 1:29.44, the fastest time in New York state so far this season. Letteney followed with his first varsity win in the 100 back, in 1:04.34, ahead of Feng in second place in 1:06.68.

The 100 breast was a very close race but McGraw outswam his GC opponent to finish first in 1:08.74, with Jim Wood third in 1:10.16.

Fairport ended the meet with a 2-3 finish in the 400 freestyle relay. Kaemmerlen, Woytash, Feng, and Schwarz placed second and Jim Wood, Jacobs, O'Brien, and Letteney placed third.

The final score was Fairport 55, Gates Chili 42. The Red Raiders are now 7-0 for the season.
