January 21, 2003 A few days after the Newburgh meet, the Red Raiders
traveled to Greece Arcadia/ Olympia's pool. In the 200 medley relay, Fairport
got off to a good start with Matt McGraw, Jeff Wood, Jeff Kaemmerlen, and
Jeff Melvin edging Kurt Schwarz, Chris Hamlin, Adam Craghead, and Jon
Roberts 1:51.13 to 1:52.82 for a 1-2 finish. Andy Amyot, Tim Jacobs, Cyrus
Salehi and Jerry Woytash finished in 1:58.49. Jim Wood won the 200 free in a
solid 1:52.83, ahead of Hamlin in 2:03.44 and Cuyler O'Brien in 2:12.60.
Amyot narrowly beat a Greece swimmer to win the 200 I.M. in 2:11.83,
followed by Woytash in 2:28.01 and Jacobs in 2:29.21. McGraw sprinted to a
win in the 50 free in 23.82 seconds, Melvin third in 25.12 and Schwarz
fourth in 25.50. Eric Hallimen then notched his first varsity win in diving
with 108.25 points.
Kaemmerlen won the 100 fly in 59.94 seconds, followed by O'Brien in 1:05.50
and Jacobs in 1:14.11. Roberts won the 100 free in 50.24 seconds, McGraw
placing third in 52.09 and Jim Wood fourth in 54.00.
In the 500 free, Salehi placed second in 5:27.43 and Hamlin was third in
5:42.51. The foursome of Jeff Wood, McGraw, Schwarz, and Melvin won the 200
free relay in 1:36.55, with Jim Wood, O'Brien, Woytash, and Kaemmerlen
third. Roberts placed first in the 100 back in 59.14 seconds, edging Amyot
second in 1:00.11 and Craghead in 1:07.52.
In the 100 breast Jeff Wood was second in 1:06.09, ahead of Salehi and
Melvin. In the final event, the 400 free relay, Roberts, McLaughlin, Salehi,
and Jacobs placed second and Hamlin, Woytash, Schwarz, and O'Brien placed
third.
The final score was Fairport 94, Greece 72.
