Fairport swimmers place at state meet

Erie, NY - The Fairport She-Sharks placed in two relays and four individual events at the New York State High School Swimming and Diving Championships held last weekend at Erie Community College's Flickinger Pool in Buffalo.

Seven was the team's lucky number as Marlys Fuqua, Erin Legg and the 400 freestyle relay all placed seventh at the states.

The efforts of the Fairport swimmers helped Section 5 place third with 441 points behind Section 1 with 488 points and Section 9 with 447 points.

Fuqua got Fairport on the scoreboard first with a seventh-place finish in the 200 freestyle in 1:55.97. She was the fastest Section 5 finisher.

Teammate Erin Legg followed that with a 10th-place finish in the 200 individual medley in 2:13.36.

Legg earned her seventh-place finish three events later in the 100 butterfly in 59:99.

Fuqua splashed home to an 11th-place finish in the longest event of the meet, the 500 freestyle in 5:08.39.

The Fairport 200 freestyle relay of Fuqua, Nicole DiBello, Stephanie Chan and Legg placed ninth in 1:42.20.

Finishing the meet, the Fairport 400 freestyle relay of Legg, DiBello, Chan and Fuqua finished seventh in 3:42.70.
