October 31, 2002 Fairport, NY - Fairport honors its senior athletes before the last home meet. The Fairport varsity She-Sharks claimed victory over Churchville-Chili at the final home meet of the season. The meet began with the traditional salute to senior athletes on both teams. Honored by the FHS principal, coaches, teammates and parents for their contributions to Fairport varsity swimming were the following seniors: Jen Alderman, Stephanie Chan, Beth Kenney, Kellie Kong, and co-captains Nicole DiBello and Karalyn Wendell. The She-Sharks ended this varsity season with an impressive 5-2 record. Opening the meet, the 200-medley relay the team of Marlys Fuqua, Clare Ostrom, Erin Legg and Nicole DiBello placed first for Fairport, with a winning time of 1:59.92. Placing second for Fairport was Kellie Kong, Karalyn Wendell, Jen Alderman and Suzanne Flynn. The team of Laura Kolb, Carly Callan, Jen Kaminska and Lindsey Burris placed sixth. Freshman Heather Moore placed first in the 200 free event with a time of 2:08:22. Sarah Lakehal-Ayat swam aggressively and captured third place overall. Kendra Hogg placed sixth. In the 200 IM, senior Stephanie Chan placed first for Fairport. Classmate Kellie Kong quickly followed her. Suzanne Flynn touched fourth. Fairport's Marlys Fuqua continued to dominate in the 50 free race, placing first. Senior Beth Kenney placed third and Karalyn Wendell placed sixth. The Fairport varsity divers showed their expertise. Placing first for Fairport was diver Becky Bersani. Meryl Scheible placed second for the team. Becca Kraft captured fourth. After the diving competition the attention returned poolside. Carrie Kroll raced to capture first place for Fairport in the 100 fly. Stephanie Yorio touched second for Fairport. Beth Kenney placed sixth overall. In the 100 free event, Fairport had a strong performance and a 1-2-4 finish. Placing first for Fairport was Marlys Fuqua. Stephanie Chan touched second and Jen Alderman captured fourth. The 500 free swim brought the standing room only crowd to its feet. Capturing an impressive first overall was Fairport's Erin Legg. Sarah Lakehal-Ayat swam smart and captured third place. Carly Nichols placed sixth. In the 200 free relay, the team of Moore, DiBello, Fuqua and Legg touched first for Fairport. Placing third overall was the team of Alderman, Burris, Yorio and B. Kenney. The team of Eisenhardt, Kolb, Kroll, and E.Vaughn finished sixth. Fairport swept the 100 back event, placing 1-2-3. Nicole DiBello touched first, followed by teammates Clare Ostrom and Kellie Kong. Erin Legg continued Fairport's rally in the 100-breast event, with a winning time of 1:10:10. Kim Kenney placed fifth and Carrie Kroll touched sixth. In the final event, the 400 free relay, all Fairport teams swam exhibition. The senior team of Alderman, Chan, Kong and DiBello touched first for Fairport. The team of Moore, Kaminska, Flynn and Nichols followed. Also swimming exhibition was the team of Vaughn, Eisenhardt, K. Kenney and Callan. The varsity coaches for the year are Mike Kennedy and Marci Callan (swimming) and Dave Salmon (diving). The Fairport JV swimming coach is Mike Fortner.
