Fairport 74, Pittsford 112 September 24, 2002 Pittsford girls dunk Fairport 112-74 The unbeaten Pittsford girls swimming and diving team got a bit of revenge against a tough Fairport team last Tuesday at the Mendon pool. At the conclusion of the meet, Pittsford swimmers and divers demonstrated that they had done much more than act as a host. After losing to Fairport by a half point at last year's sectionals, the Lady Panthers (now 4-0) used their strength and depth to win the long-awaited the dual meet, 112-74. This victory represents their first dual meet victory over Fairport since competition began in 1974. The tone of the meet was set early as Pittsford's two medley relay teams took first and second places, positioning Pittsford on top from the beginning, 12 to 2. The first-place team of Susan Allen, Katie Harris, Libby Brushand Kate Wilson touched in first, with fellow team members Liz Forbes, Katie House, Courtney Brayman, and Lindsay Richardson fighting for the second place win. Fairport won the 200 free, with Pittsfortd's Hailey Weniger, Harris and Lisa Prezzano earning second, third and fifth-place points. Despite Fairport's first-place finish, Pittsford's depth prevailed, matching the earned points 8-8, with Pittsford remaining in the lead 20 to 10. The 200 IM was the second individual event won by Fairport, but the victory was not enough to outscore Pittsford, which placed second, third and fourth with Katie House, Brush and Allen contributing 9 points to Fairport's earned 7. The 50 free event found Pittsford widening the point spread to 19 points, as Wilson finished first and Stephie House second. Richardson came in fifth. The diving event was won by Fairport, with Pittsford's Eliza Massie placing second and Niki Rencis third. Bailee Dunshie had a strong performance for Pittsford in the diving event. At the conclusion of diving, Pittsford led 48 to 30. After diving, all eyes again returned to the Pittsford lanes, as Brayman placed second in the 100 fly, Brush third, and Emily Wells fourth, giving Pittsford a 20-point advantage. The lead increased to a 26 at the conclusion of the 100 free. Fairport was held to a five-point gain as Pittsford dominated with Stephie House placing first, Wilson second, and Richardson fifth. The 500 free went in favor of Fairport, with Pittsford earning second, fourth and fifth places behind Weniger, Jenny Skerker and Lisa Prezzano. The 200 free relay cinched the meet for Pittsford, as the 200 free relay teams earned first and third-place wins. The team of Wilson, Allen, Weniger and S. House placed first with Brush, Wells, Prezzano and Brayman touching in at third. Teammates Amanda Lang and Allison Gorski were members of Pittsford's fifth place 200 Medley and 200 free relay teams, turning in best times on their legs of the relays. Pittsford led by 30 points, and the lead continued as Allen won the backstroke with Forbes placed second, and Wells fourth. The breast stroke was a strong event for Pittsford, with K. House winning, Harris placing second and and Curry fifth. The 400 free relay event closed the meet with Pittsford's team earning second place points. The team of S. House, Weniger, K. House and Harris emerged from the water to join their team in celebration of the 38-point win ending a 28-year-old drought! In the junior varsity portion of the meet, Jessie Ward placed first in the 100 breast and third in the 50 free. Teammate Rebecca Hazen earned second-place points in the 200 IM and the 100 breast, and Erin Bankey captured the 500 free. The Lady Panthers travel to Webster Schroeder this week to take on the Webster Warriors.
