December 20, 2001 Fairport, NY - Fairport hosted its second meet of the varsity swim season against Penfield (3-0). The meet opened with Fairport going 1-3-4 in the 200 medley relay. The winning team of Jim Wood, Vijay Parthasarathy, TJ Obenauf, and Andy Amyot touched out Penfield's team in a very close race with a winning time of 1:46.48. The team of Corey Stark, Doug Potvin, Nick Reisch, and Keith Schanck came in third in 1:53.40, and Joe Lakin, Jeff Kaemmerlen, Jeff Melvin, and Ian Phillips were fourth in 1:56.23. Next was the 200 free, won easily by Jon Roberts in 1:50.00. Cyrus Salehi finished in second in 2:01.26, and Adam Craghead was third in 2:04.48. The 200 IM followed with three Fairport swimmers in a tight race with two Penfield swimmers. For Fairport, Kurt Schwarz was third in 2:09.93, Kaemmerlen fourth in 2:11.27, and Potvin fifth in 2:14.50. The 50 free was also a close race with Parthasarathy finishing second in 24.77, Phillips third in 25.30, and Chris Hamlin fourth in 25.68. Four divers performed for Fairport. Pete Crane won with 289.70 points, and Ryan McLaughlin placed second with 194.45. Matt Phillips and Bill Gustafson also dove for Fairport in their first ever high school meet. The 100 fly was another 1-2-3 finish for Fairport, with Roberts and Amyot swimming away from the field in 54.51 and 55.35 seconds, respectively. Melvin was third in 101.40. The 100 free was another very close race, Tim Stockton in 51.24 barely touching out Jim Wood in 51.33 seconds. Joe Lakin finished in 1:02.46. The 500 freestyle was won easily by Jeff Wood in a fast 4:51.37. Matt McGraw swam a hard-fought race with Penfield's best distance swimmer and finished third in 5:05.26. Nick Reisch finished in 5:46.39. Fairport also swam to a 1-2-3 finish in the 200 free relay. Amyot, Jim Wood, Stockton, and McGraw won in 1:34.81, Roberts, Schanck, Obenauf, and Parthasarathy were second in 1:36.38, and Melvin, Salehi, Schwarz, and Lakin were third in 1:42.36. The 100 back was a tight race, and was won by Kaemmerlen in 1:01.06. Hamlin followed in 1:04.88, and Reisch in 1:11.04. Amyot finished second in a very close 100 breast in 1:06.31, followed by Potvin in 1:11.34 and Stark in 1:14.17. Fairport again showed its excellent depth as a team, closing out the meet with another 1-2-3 finish in the 400 free relay. Jim Wood, Hamlin, Stockton, and Schwarz won in 3:35.08, followed by Phillips, Craghead, McGraw, and Melvin in 3:41.45 and Obenauf, Salehi, Schanck, and Parthasarathy in 3:47.93. The final score of the meet was Fairport 104, Penfield 76.
