Sharks Win Opener over Brighton |

December 11, 2001 Fairport, NY - The Fairport High School swim team opened the 2001-02 season with a home meet against Brighton. Fairport's varsity consists of seven seniors, six juniors, six sophomores, and five freshmen. The varsity coaches are Mike Kennedy and Mike Fortner, Dave Salmon coaches the divers, and Jason Male is starting his first season as the JV coach. The team has been practicing hard and is working to defend their title of Section 5 Class A champions. The first event was the 200 medley relay. The team of Matt McGraw, Jon Roberts, Andy Amyot, and Pete Kaemmerlen finished first, and the team of Jim Wood, Vijay Parthasarathy, Jeff Wood, and Tim Stockton finished a close second. Corey Stark, Carl Adair, Ian Phillips, and Cyrus Salehi finished fourth. Fairport also went 1-2-4 in the 200 free with Jeff Kaemmerlen winning in 2:00.29, barely touching out Chris Hamlin, who finished in 2:00.43, and Nick Reisch was fourth in 2:06.25. Tim Stockton finished second in the 200 individual medley in 2:15.86, with Jeff Melvin third in 2:26.57, and Joe Lakin fourth in 2:32.15. In the 50 free, Fairport finished 1-3-4, Pete Kaemmerlen winning in 23.81, followed by Keith Schanck in 24.10 and Doug Potvin in 25.14. In diving, only Ryan McLaughlin of Fairport competed. Ryan drew consistently good scores on his six dives, totaling 208.00 points. The 100 butterfly produced another sweep for Fairport. McGraw won it in 1:00.13, followed by Reisch in 1:02.96, Potvin in 1:04.05, and Tyler Obenauf in 1:04.17. Next was the 100 freestyle, won by Kurt Schwarz in 52.41. Adam Craghead came in third in 55.37, and Phillips was fourth in 56.58. In the 500 free Fairport's swimmers easily outdistanced their opponents. Roberts won in 4:59.01, Jim Wood was second in 5:03.74, and Salehi third in 5:35.65. Fairport finished 2-3 in the 200 free relay with Phillips, Potvin, Melvin, and Obenauf in second, and Lakin, Reisch, Craghead, and Jim Wood in third. In the final three events Fairport continued to show its depth and versatility with more strong swims. The 100 back was won easily by Jeff Wood in 55.44, with Amyot third in 1:02.30 and Stark fourth in 1:04.09. Parthasarathy won the 100 breast in 1:08.85, followed by J. Kaemmerlen in 1:10.26 and Carl Adair in 1:14.71. Fairport finished up with the team of Melvin, Salehi, P. Kaemmerlen, and Craghead winning the 400 free relay, followed by Hamlin, Lakin, Roberts, and Mc Graw in second and Jeff Wood, Reisch, Stark, and J. Kaemmerlen in fourth. The final score of the meet was Fairport 98, Brighton 64.
