September 19, 2001 - The Fairport junior varsity swim team opened their season with an impressive win on Sept. 20 against Rush-Henrietta. The final score was 100-72. The co-captains for the 2001-02 season are Laura Kolb, Suzanne Flynn and Emily Vaughn. Fairport began with an aggressive attack in the 200 medley relay competition. The team of Stephanie Yorio, Morgan Vanlare, Carrie Kroll and Shelly Cardegna captured first place with a winning time of 2:25.34. Placing third for Fairport was the team of Carrie Alderman, Amy Gillen, Lizz Comstock and Allison Lednar (2:34.58). Carly Nichols continued the charge and touched first for Fairport in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:37.34. Allison Schirmuhly placed second (2:41.35) and Jennifer Wright placed fourth. In the 200 individual medley, co-captain Laura Kolb championed first place with a time of 2:44.21. Lizz Comstock swam to second place (3:10.29) and co-captain Emily Vaughn placed fourth (3:15.30). The 50-yard freestyle was a sweep for Fairport. Laura Bennett took charge and placed first with a time of 31.11. Morgan Vanlare came in a close second (31.58) and Jennifer Kaminska placed third with a time of 32.16. She-Shark divers Meryl Scheible and Becky Kraft continued to add to Fairport's lead. Scheible placed first and Kraft placed fourth, adding a valuable eight points to the team's total score. Fairport continued their winning streak in the 50 fly event. Stephanie Yorio brought home first place (33.66). Carrie Kroll showed spirit and captured third (37.66) and Felicia Allen touched fifth. In the 100 free event, Fairport again showed determination. Taking first for Fairport was Shelly Cardegna with a time of 1:04.66. Becky Szweda placed third (1:11.64) and Allison Lednar took fifth. The 500-yard freestyle was another Fairport sweep. Co-captain Suzanne Flynn touched first with a winning time of 6:01.91. Co-captain Kolb placed second (6:13.94) and Erin Eisenhardt rounded out the event placing third (6:29.59). Fairport's lead was enhanced in the 200 freestyle relay. The team of Kim Kenney, Kendra Hogg, Jennifer Kaminska and Amy Gillen took first place with a time of 2:02.00. Placing second for Fairport was the team of co-captain Emily Vaughn, Carly Nichols, Carrie Kroll and Jennifer Wright (2:08.90). Becky Szweda, Allison Schirmuhly, Felicia Allen and Nicole Watson placed fourth. Kim Kenney, Kendra Hogg and Amy Gillen all swam exhibition in the 100 back event. Also swimming exhibition for Fairport were Jennifer Kaminska, Carrie Alderman and Nicole Watson in the 100 breast stroke. The final event of the meet was the 400 freestyle relay. The following teams all swam exhibition: Suzanne Flynn, Emily Vaughn, Shelly Cardegna and Erin Eisenhardt; Stephanie Yorio, Laura Bennett, Morgan Vanlare and Becky Szweda; and Carly Nichols, Allison Lednar, Carrie Alderman and Allison Schirmuhly.
