EJ Amyot Wins State Title |

March 08, 2001 - EJ Amyot led the Fairport swimming and diving team at last Saturday's state championship meet in Buffalo with a first-place finish in the 100 breast stroke. Amyot's time was 57.48, a fraction of a second off the state record set by Pittsford's Will Brandt in 1999 at 56.73. Amyot also placed second in the 200 individual medley in 1:54.14. David Kahn from Port Jefferson won the race in 1:51.31. Also scoring for the Sharks was Pete Crane with a third-place in diving. He finished with 465.05 points. Teammate Ryan McLaughlin finished 10th with 392.90 points. Gavin Stark placed fifth in both the 50 and 100 freestyles. In the 50, he splashed home in 21.81 while in the 100, he finished in 47.25. Two Fairport relay teams also added points to the Section 5 total. The 200 free relay of EJ Amyot, Gavin Stark, Mike Steurer and Andy Amyot finished third in 1:27.99, a fraction of a second behind first-place Jamesville-Dewitt and second-place Pittsford. The Sharks also finished fourth in the 400 free relay with G. Stark, Tim Stockton, Erik Schwarz and EJ Amyot in 3:14.87.
