February 18, 2001 - The Fairport Sharks won the Section 5 Class A swimming sectionals on Sunday, Feb. 18, at SUNY Brockport with 340 team points. Leading the way with two individual victories was E.J. Amyot with wins in the 100 breast stroke and the 200 individual medley. Gavin Stark also won the 100 freestyle in 47.08. Fairport also won both the 200 free relay and 400 free relay. Teaming up to win the 200 free relay were E.J. Amyot, Gavin Stark, Brett Carney and Andy Amyot. The Fairport 400 free team included G. Stark, B. Carney, Eric Schwarz and E.J. Amyot. G. Stark placed second in the 50 free behind Webster's Kevin Joyce. Mike Steurer was fifth. B. Carney also placed second in the 200 free, behind Greece's Jeff Hurst. The Fairport 200 medley relay of Matt McGraw, E. Schwarz, A. Amyot and M. Steurer placed third behind Webster and Pittsford. Freshman M. McGraw placed third in the 100 backstroke behind Evan Koenig from Pittsford and Evan McCormack from Webster, both seniors. B. Carney and A. Amyot went three-four in the 100 fly behind J. Hurst from Greece and Steve Nims from Webster. M. McGraw placed sixth for Fairport in the 500 free.
