Fairport Relay Sets State Record |

Both schools showed great spirit and enthusiasm during this opening meet as many records fell. To set the tempo for the meet, the 200 medley relay team composed of Laura Peel, Bonnie Carr, Eileen Boyle, and Cindy Denninger set a new state record of 1:56.4. This was also a Monroe County record, pool and school record. This qualified the relay for National High School All-American honors. The second medley team of Christy Roscoe, Maribeth Hannan, Jan Bender, and Leslie Branigan showed great effort getting touched out for second. Helen Edmonds and Nancy Goyette followed next in the 200 free with a 1-2 sweep, in a winning time of 2:07.8 with Michelle Beaudoin placing fifth in this event. In the 200 I.M. another record was established as Eileen Boyle set a new pool mark of 2:16.0, while Marlene Burandt and Sue Piscina placed third and fifth respectively. Laura Peel whipped off a 25.3 in the 50 free for yet anther pool record. Cindy Denninger and Bonnie Carr followed her in with a third and fifth place finish. Sue Thomas, Cathy Maloney, and Donna Aman all did a great job in te Diving event against strong competition from Sutherland, in their first meet of the season. In the 100 fly that followed, Jan Bender, Sue Piscina, and Maribethh Hannan handed Sutherland the only 1-2-3 sweep of the entire meet, with Jan winning in a 1:08.0. Another pool record was set in the 100 free as Eileen Boyle swam a 56.5 with Cindy Denninger third and Leslie Branigan sixth. Nancy Goyette followed through next, also setting a new pool record in the grueling 500 free with 5:43.5. Helen Edmonds was right behind in second and Michelle Beaudoin in fourth. In the next event, the 100 back, Laura Peel followed Eileen and Nancy by setting another pool mark of 1:05.4. Christy Roscoe came from behind to finish second while Wendy Eck placed fifth. Bonnie Carr and Maribeth Hannan finished 1-2 in the 100 breast with Bonnie winning in 1:16.3 while Marlene Burandt finished fifth. The final event of the 400 free relay brought Fairport its seventh pool record. Helen Edmonds, Christy Roscoe, Jan Bender, and Nancy Goyette wonthis event with a time of 4:00.8. The second relay of Sue Piscina, Michelle Beaudoin, Marlene Burandt, and Leslie Branigan placed third. The next meet for Fairport will be April 25 when they swim against R.L. Thomas.
